University research projects
University research competitions are intended to support research initiatives launched jointly by a Quebec university and another academic partner (ideally located outside Quebec), in order to contribute to scientific and technological advances in nanotechnology.
NQ funding is awarded exclusively for research conducted within Quebec universities. Projects receive funding for a maximum of two years.
DONE - CALL FOR PROPOSALS ON NANOPARTICLES
Application files must be sent before noon, December 17, 2012
Montréal, October 30, 2012– The Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) and NanoQuébec are launching a call for proposals to Québec researchers for the purpose of financially supporting projects on nanoparticles.
Evaluation, potential risks and means of control
The IRSST and NanoQuébec will invest $700,000 in projects producing scientific knowledge leading to the advancement of the health and safety of workers exposed to nanoparticles. The call for proposals aims to fund projects in the two following categories:
- Exposure and risk: evaluation of workers’ exposure to manufactured nanoparticles and potential health risk. Characterization of nanoparticles with, as its objective, the exposure of individuals to different types of manufactured nanoparticles (respiratory and skin pathways), evaluation of risks, study of the behaviour of manufactured nanoparticles.
- Control and protection: development of methods for evaluating the effectiveness of control measures providing protection against the effects of exposure to different types of manufactured nanoparticles on a person’s health, and determining and optimizing the effectiveness of protective measures.
The $700,000 budget allocated to this call for proposals should make it possible to support four (4) projects. The financing granted cannot exceed $175,000 per project. The maximum duration of projects in 24 months, including the tabling of the research report.
The IRSST and NanoQuébec have been collaborating for several years in promoting the responsible development of nanotechnologies, a very promising field where Québec is among the leaders.

NanoQuébec launches the sixth round of its seed-funding program for international research projects
Research centres wishing to participate in this call for proposals must submit applications before April 2, 2012. Candidates selected for funding will be announced in June 2012.
The new call for proposals is aimed at funding the launch phase of international research programs led by NanoQuébec’s strategic partners, specifically MINATEC, ALBANY NANOTECH and the NAGANO TECHNO FOUNDATION. Canadian institutions based outside Quebec are also considered domestic strategic partners (NINT, University of Waterloo, etc.). The call for proposals will contribute to the creation of new scientific collaborations and the strengthening of ties with research centres of strategic importance to Quebec.
Proposals submitted will be assessed for scientific and technical soundness and feasibility; the excellence of the research consortium and level of collaboration; degree of innovation and potential for spinoffs; and the strategic importance of the partners outside Quebec.
The main sectors affected by the call for proposals are those related to priority sectors for economic development in Quebec, such as micro-nanoelectronics, materials processing, health and sustainable development.
